Dry/Sensitive/Mature

Your Green Beauty Personal Program

Cleanser

When skin is drier due to colder weather or decreased oil production it can become flaky and even irritated. This can make it appear to have more wrinkles, as well. Plumped up, well hydrated skin looks younger and healthier. The first step to combat dryness, especially with skin on the sensitive side, is actually to cleanse less often. Even if you are using a cream cleanser (or some other sort of moisturizing cleanser) it can be drying to the skin. So, try skipping your morning cleanse and splash with warm water instead. If skin is cleansed properly at night it really won’t be “dirty” in the morning. On days you work out or some how get dirty and feel that you need to cleanse your face, be sure to use a moisturizing cleanser like Lavera Basis Cleansing Milk for sensitive skin. Now for night time cleansing. It may seem counter productive to apply oil straight onto the skin, but you will see a real improvement in your complexion with regular use. Oil binds to dirt and impurities on the skin, leaving it well cleansed and supple. Simply warm a small amount of organic grape seed or olive oil in the palm of your hand and gently massage onto the skin. You can try both and see which you prefer, neither will clog pores, olive oil will be a bit heavier. Rinse with a warm cloth. In warmer, more humid months Lavera Basis Cleansing Gel is a foaming cleanser that is actually gentle enough for sensitive skin.

Toner

You may use a gentle, hydrating toner here if you like, Primavera Balancing Toning Mist is a good choice, or even a cooled tea bag, Chamomile is very soothing. Toners can be irritating to already stressed skin and it is perfectly fine to skip this step.

Treatment

For a treatment Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is very effective at treating signs of aging and helps to slough dead skin cells, keeping the complexion fresh and clear. With sensitive skin you will probably want to use this only once per day, after your night time cleansing. Though gentle enough for sensitive skin, rosehip oil is mildly exfoliating and can be irritating if used too often. It should also help to fade any sun damage. Dab a bit of rosehip oil around the eye area at night, it doesn’t move into or irritate eyes and decreases fine lines. In the a.m. Skin’s Apricot Mango Eye Cream is a terrific choice and while Lavere Ultimate Eye Cream is pricey, it simply cannot be beat.

Moisturizer

This is a very important step in your skin care regimen and you may already have one that you love. If so, stick with it as long as it is free from toxic ingredients. There are many great moisturizers to choose from, you will want a product that is very moisturizing without leaving you greasy. For day try Lavera Basis Carrot Face Cream or if you want just a hint of color Lavera Faces Summer Glow Face Self Tanner is very hydrating and not at all streaky. For night time Weleda Almond Moisture Cream is super moisturizing and perfect for sensitive skin.

Mask/Scrub

One of the best, all time masks is Pangea Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai and Goji Berry Facial Mask. It smells sort of strong, and I would suggest you don’t leave it on for long (apply before hopping into the shower and rinse the mask off) but you will love the results! It is mildly exfoliating and leaves your skin with such a pretty glow. Use once a week. Another great scrub you can whip up right in your kitchen is a sugar scrub. Mix enough olive oil with organic sugar (you can use brown sugar, if you prefer) to make a thick scrub and massage (gently!) onto skin. This works great on your whole body. In summer switch the oil to milk.

Makeup

If you use the Lavera Faces Summer Glow Face Self Tanner you may be able to forgo foundation. bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation is a mineral foundation that provides sun protection and comes in a variety of shades. Nvey eco and Sukicolor are both nontoxic makeup lines with great reputations and a wide range of products. The perfect lip balm/gloss is Lemon Lips made by Skin, it is glossy and moisturizing and super long lasting. Mix with a bit of pure mineral blusher for a hint of color.

Body

Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soaps are pure and simple cleansers for the body that come in several scents. Baby Super Mild Unscented Liquid would be best suited for sensitive skin and anyone, really. Weleda Mallow Body Lotion is a mild yet hydrating body lotion. If you feel like adding a bit of lux, Suzanne aux bains Relaxing Massage Oil feels wonderful on skin and the smell is divine.
