Oily/Acne

Your Green Beauty Personal Program

Cleanse

To start off, be sure you are not over cleansing in an attempt to rid your skin of unwanted oil. The skin’s natural oils are what keep it hydrated and healthy and if the skin is stripped of these oils it will show up as acne and/or irritation. Try using a gently foaming cleanser, like Skin’s Lemon Aid Face Wash, that will provide a super clean feeling without being overly drying. The accompanying Lemon Fresh Toner will also help to keep skin fresh and clean, tighten pores and prepare skin for moisturizer.

Moisturize

Just because skin tends to be oily doesn’t mean you should forgo moisturizer. This is what will happen; the skin becomes overly dry when stripped of it’s natural oils from using a harsh cleanser, without moisturizer it is socked a double whammy and is left having to produce all of the skin’s needed moisture itself and kicks into over drive, actually producing more oil. With the skin dried out from lack of moisture it becomes flaky, the excess oil is then trapped under this dry, flaky top layer and that is where breakouts begin. All of this can be remedied with the right products used properly. Try a non-greasy moisturizer made especially for those with oily skin like Karen’s Botanicals Rehydrating Aloe Vera Lotion, which contains Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree is excellent for oily skin as it is easily absorbed and doesn’t sit on top of the skin. Its astringent properties also help to control breakouts. If you feel you need something a bit more moisturizing at night, Dr. Hauschka Moisturizing Day Cream is easily absorbed.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is key for all skin types in maintaining healthy, glowing skin. Be careful not to overdue it in an attempt to keep blemishes at bay, skin is never happy when it gets too much attention. Skin’s Fruity Face Cleansing Scrub used twice weekly will remove dead skin cells gently and the jojoba oil (great for oily skin) will keep skin soft and supple. Also helps to shrink pores and even out skin tone. You can use Green Tea Clay Mask by Evan Healy for gentle exfoliation on opposite days, if you like, to absorb and balance excess oil and draw out pimples and blackheads.

Treatment

A terrific home remedy for unruly skin is pure honey. Honey has natural healing and antibacterial properties and can be used as a face mask on its own. You can also mix with organic sugar and a bit of organic milk to create your own facial scrub, just be sure to massage in gently. Honey is also perfect to repair chapped, rough lips.

Oily skin tends to show signs of aging later, but you may be concerned with keeping those lines and wrinkles at bay. And rightly so, the sooner you start prevention of premature aging the better. The absolute best thing you can do to maintain young, healthy looking skin is to eat a healthy organic diet. The less toxins you consume through foods and cosmetics the fewer lines and wrinkles you will see. Lots of pure filtered water is also essential in the good health of your skin and body. That said, there are some really great products out there effective at treating premature aging of the skin that also help to prevent further damage. Though you may feel that oils are counterproductive to the treatment of oily skin problems, there are certain oils that work very well on all skin types (including oily) and have many benefits. Rosehip oil is a truly wonderful skincare treatment with many benefits. It helps to reduce breakouts, improve the appearance of lines, lighten sun spots and scars, and heal blemishes. Use at night on its own or under your moisturizer. It can even be dabbed around the eye area to reduce the appearance of fine lines and won’t travel into eyes. Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is the cream of the crop.

Speaking of eyes, Lavere Ultimate Eye Cream truly is the ultimate in eye creams. It does come with a fairly hefty price tag but is well worth every cent, and since eye cream lasts a long time you won’t be purchasing this product as often as a cleanser or moisturizer. Use in the morning and use your rosehip oil at night.

Makeup

For makeup try Dr. Hauschka Toned Day Cream in place of your morning moisturizer, or bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation is a mineral foundation that provides sun protection and comes in a variety of shades. Nvey eco and Sukicolor are both nontoxic makeup lines with great reputations and a wide range of products.

Body

The most basic and cost effective body cleanser has to be Dr. Bronner’s. Comes in a variety of scents (you may like Tea Tree if your body is prone to oil or breakouts, but Baby Super Mild Unscented Liquid tends to suit everyone) and you can buy a huge bottle that lasts forever for around $10.
